Landmarks such as the Story Bridge (with the addition of Story Bridge Climbs) and Gateway Bridge, City Hall and its Clock Tower, Museum of Brisbane, Queensland State Library, Queensland Art Gallery, Kangaroo Point Cliffs, Newstead House, Treasury Building (now a Casino), The Tower Mill, Mt Cootha, Queensland Performing Arts Complex (QPAC), Sky Needle and now the Eye of Brisbane at Southbank will keep the tourist busy with conventional tourist activities.

Previously “shy” about the gay scene, Brisbane has evolved in recent years to value and celebrate its thriving gay and lesbian scene. Festivals such as the Brisbane Pride (June) and Brisbane Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (April) compliment the thriving hub of gay-friendly bars, clubs, restaurants and accommodation options.

Brisbane’s gay scene is located in two areas: “The Valley” (Fortitude Valley) and its neighbouring suburb, Spring Hill. There are some isolated venues such as Sbi Sbi serving up excellent Thai food in Greenslopes (staffed by several gay waiters and a definite dining spot to check out - remember to book Friday and Saturday nights (07) 3394 1099), Woolloongabba and West End with very funky, earthy, alternative and trendy catered for in retail and food offerings.

You will find the majority of GLB accommodation, bars & nightclubs and popular alfresco dining hangouts including gay-run delis and restaurants, trendy art-house cafes and cinemas in the Valley and Spring Hill, however, do explore Woolloongabba and West End as there is gay-friendly accommodation and the local bars, cafes and restaurants are all gay friendly too.
