Anyone who loves the funky, arty feel of Ireland’s Galway, will love Hobart. Steeped in history but blending NOW, so easily. Travellers can really enjoy the retail and food scene due to the fresh climes, and quaint setting. Wilderness is at the doorstep and some incredible adventures can be had if you pop out of town for a day or two.
Hobart’s Derwent River opens into a deep water harbour and thus quickly became a place to transport the English and Irish convicts. Today this harbour is still a point of stopover for sailors, yachtsmen and ocean going vessels. In fact, this old fishing town is a place of yachts, fishing boats and activity by and overlooking the sea. Fair Light Cottage, Salamanca Market, Port Arthur, Bruny Island, Mount Wellington and Richmond – all definite “to do’s” on a tourist’s checklist. Other adventures include the Alpenrail, Antarctic adventure, the Cascade Brewery, and the Cadbury Factory.
