About Bunyip State Park
Visitors to Bunyip State Park are able to explore and experience the Park`s rugged bush setting through a range of activities. All 4WD tracks in Bunyip State Park (and Tarago State Forest) are subject to seasonal road closure after being burnt by bushfire in February 2009. There are damaged/unstable road and track surfaces with high water runoff, silting and landslips.
Seasonal road closures are necessary tp protect track surfaces, water quality and the environment and to ensure driver safety.
The nearest four wheel driving and trail bike riding area is Yarra State Forest east of Yarra Junction or Latrobe State Forest east of Neerim South.
Areas of Bunyip State Park not damaged by the recent fires have been re-opened to visitors. Although nearly half the park area was affected by fire, there are still a number of popular recreational areas that are now open and available to visitors.
Mortimer Picnic Ground and Nature Walk is still intact, as well as the Buttongrass Nature Trail and the Four Brothers Rocks viewing area. Horse and bicycle riding trails are also open and the Cannibal Creek horse unloading area will be available for use.
